Jason Traeger
comedian - artist - musician - photographer

In Jason Traeger's nearly 25 years of cultural production he has worn as many hats as his unique vision has demanded.

As musician he has collaborated and shared stages with the likes of Beck, Bikini Kill and Built to Spill. He has released recordings through the legendary K Records and Kill Rock Stars labels. As an artist and painter he has performed and exhibited work in galleries, Biennials and at Tate Modern Museum in London. As a stand-up comic he has toured the country and performed in comedy clubs in his former home bases of Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

Traeger's turn on the stand-up comedy circuit began when he dove into the Seattle/Tacoma open mic scene in 2001. For the next several years he honed his one-of-a-kind comedic style on stages up and down the west coast. This period of unceasing experimentation culminated in a national tour that saw him open more than twenty dates throughout the midwest and east coast in 2005 for the recording artist Scout Niblett.

In 2007 he was inspired by some unexpected success in the field of visual art to pursue a career in oil painting. Throughout this era of intense studio practice and sporadic critical acclaim Traeger performed the odd stand-up set from time to time primarily in fine art settings sometimes with his performance group Oregon Painting Society. It wasn't until 2012 that he decided it was time to dedicate himself anew to the craft of stand-up comedy.

Since his comedic reawakening last year Traeger has quickly become a fixture on the open mic scene in his hometown of Portland, Oregon. In the short time he has been back at stand-up he has graduated from open mics to showcases and will open for national headliner Kurt Braunohler at the highly regarded Mississippi Studios venue in February 2013. Beyond that date Traeger is set to MC and open shows featuring local and national headliners such as Ian Karmel and Ron Funches in March and April 2013 as well.

A skilled draughtsman and photographer, Traeger has gained a reputation for himself not only as a highly original, fearless comedic voice but also as a tireless documentarian of Portland stand-up comedy with two blogs dedicated to his sketches and photographs of the places and faces of Portland Comedy. This documentary practice reflect his deep love and respect for his fellow comics, their shared audiences and for the craft of stand-up generally.

Jason Traeger is a stand-up comic reborn with a fire for laughter, levity and love that only burns more brightly the deeper he loses himself in the practice he loves so much.
